Pilates
The Pilates Method (or simply Pilates), is a physical
fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph
Pilates. Pilates called his method
Contrology, because he believed his method uses the mind to control the
muscles. The program focuses on
the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are
essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath
and alignment of the spine and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles.
About Elite Movement Pilates
Elite Movement Pilates has studios located in Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. EMP is a fully equipped, full service Pilates studio offering private, semi-private, and class sessions in a sophisticated and posh setting. Elite
Movement’s owners, Ashley Kanter and Julianna Robinson, carefully designed
their studios to be a comfortable and bright location for their clients to practice Pilates.
Ashley and Julianna opened Elite Movement Pilates, Santa Monica in October 2009 and EMP Pacific Palisades in October 2011. Both Ashley and Julianna believe in
something that has become lost in the Pilates community: Personal
Attention! Coming together from
very different backgrounds, Ashley from law and Julianna from art, the two make
a perfect match in creating a great foundation for a Pilates studio. A
little left brain and a little right brain: A rational thinker with precision
and an intuitive thinker with creativity together in one.
